    Diabetes Management

If you are living with diabetes, it is particularly important to look after your feet, as part of your general wellbeing.

Diabetes can cause nerve damage and reduce the flow of blood to your feet in the lower limbs which can lead to a decrease of sensation in the feet and a delay in healing of any damage, such as foot ulcerations. Regular appointments with your podiatrist can prevent problems and make sure any complications are detected and treated at an early stage.

Our services for those with diabetes include:

    • Full visual check of your feet to screen for areas of increased pressure which could lead to increased risk of ulceration.
    • Review the circulation of your feet including:
      • palpation of your foot pulses (with the aid of a foot Doppler)
      • pressure measurement of your blood vessels, to check for any deterioration to your circulation.
    • Review of the nerves of your feet, including screening for pain, light touch and vibration.
    • Any routine podiatry care your require; such as removal of any hard skin and trimming nails.
    • Provide you advice on how you are best to maintain your feet to keep them in optimal condition!
    • Discuss the recommended frequency of podiatry treatments and services.

    Further ways we can help:

    • Show you how to examine your feet yourself, particularly if you suffer from poor circulation and numbness.
    • Treat any cuts, grazes and bruises to prevent further complications.
    • Treat hard skin and calluses as these may become ulcerated over time.
    • Make sure your socks and footwear are correct and comfortable
  • Pain Management Pain Management

To improve mobility and enhance the independence of individuals by the prevention and management of pathological foot problems and associated morbidity. This is achieved by providing advice on foot health education, assessment and diagnosis of foot pathology, identification of treatment and other requirements, referral to other disciplines as appropriate, formulation of a care plan and provision of direct care as deemed appropriate and agreed to by the individual.

    How we can help:

    • Use of acupuncture for a range of conditions such as restless leg syndrome, medial knee pain, Morton's neuroma and joint conditions.
    • Therapies such as exercises regimes, soft tissue massage and joint mobilisations.
    • Foot orthoses can be prescribed to dampen pathological loads that can so often be responsible for postural pains and discomfort.
    • For patients that suffer from ingrowing toenails that are resistant to conservative treatment we can offer permanent nail removal surgery, with the use of local anaesthetic to minimise pain. Cure rates from nail surgery are around the highest for any surgical procedure with a 95% success rate commonly reported.
