  • Bone Density Bone Density

    Bone Density

Are you over 30? Have you been screened for Osteoporosis?

While people over 50 years are more likely to develop Osteoporosis, early screening is beneficial at identifying if you are at risk. 1 in 3 women and 1 in 5 men over the age of 50, in Australia, will develop one or more osteoporotic fractures in their lifetime*

    What are Bone Density Screenings?

A Bone Density Screening is a quick and easy ultrasound test available at Quality Pharmacy stores to help assess your risk of developing osteoporosis and fractures.

What can I expect during a Bone Density Screening?

A Bone Density Screening requires a bare foot as it passes ultrasound waves through the heel to measure its density. During the test, it is best to remain stationary for more accurate results. Results are immediate and your Pharmacist will discuss these results with you and send a copy to your doctor if necessary.

    • investigating the cause of the wound
    • providing an appropriate treatment plan
    • applying and dressing wounds (in a clinical setting) as per the treatment plan, in conjunction with the patients practitioner.
    • providing preventative care and advice to avoid re-injury &/or infection.

  • Flu Vaccinations Flu Vaccinations

    Flu Vaccinations

    What is the Flu?

It is a common viral infection that can be deadly, especially in high-risk groups. The flu attacks the lungs, nose and throat. Young children, older adults, pregnant women and people with chronic disease or weak immune systems are at high risk.

Symptoms include fever, chills, muscle aches, cough, congestion, runny nose, headaches and fatigue.

    Don't be scared, be prepared!

By having an annual flu vaccination, it can help prevent the spread of the flu virus by providing increased protection to you and those around you who may be at high risk of developing flu related complications.

All vaccines in Australia must pass the rigorous safety testing by the TGA before they are approved for use. Flu vaccines are adjusted each year (due to mutations in the virus), therefore the vaccine will only be released, subject to it passing this same TGA safety approval process, year on year.

    Protect you and protect others:

    • Administered by qualified immunising Pharmacist.
    • Appointments are necessary.

After you have been vaccinated you will be required to stay in our pharmacy waiting area for 15 minutes under observation for any reaction.

All of our Pharmacists who administer vaccinations are trained in both first aid and CPR, and know how to respond to adverse anaphylactic reactions.

    Pertussis (Whooping Cough) Vaccinations

    What is Whooping Cough?

Whooping cough (Pertussis), is a highly contagious respiratory infection that can cause a high pitched 'whoop' sound when breathing in after longer episodes of coughing. Exposure to airborne droplets, from the coughing and sneezing of those infected, is the most common way the bacteria spreads.

Whooping cough can affect people of all ages. Although, it is particularly serious in young children and babies, as they are more vulnerable to life threatening complications, including:

    • Pauses in their breathing
    • Pneumonia
    • Seizures
    • Feeding difficulties
    • Weight loss

It is recommended that adults who are, or will be, in close contact with babies and young children, should get a whooping cough booster. This includes family members, or those who work in the health or child care sectors.

All vaccines in Australia must pass the rigorous safety testing by the TGA before they are approved for use.

    Shingles Vaccinations

    What is Shingles?

Shingles, is a viral infection that causes a painful, blistering rash caused by the reactivation of the same virus that causes chickenpox. Whilst many symptoms subside within 2-3 weeks, there is a risk of ongoing nerve pain that can last for months (known as post-herpetic neuralgia). Additionally, other serious complications associated with shingles can include:

    • Pneumonia
    • Hearing issues
    • Blindness
    • Swelling of the brain

About 1 in 3 people will get shingles in their lifetime. Shingles usually affects older people, and the risk of complications increases with age, particularly for:

    • Those aged 65 years and over
    • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged 50 years and over
    • Those with weakened immune systems
