Why our pharmacists are the best

Your pharmacist can do more than just fill a prescription, our pharmacists are becoming more specialised and receiving additional training and accreditation.

A number of our pharmacists have become accredited in sleep apnoea, advanced wound care and other health services to improve their customers health.

‘It feels great to be able to provide these services,’ says Katie (Professional Health Services Manager). ‘That’s why pharmacists get into health care: to help improve people’s overall health.’

  • Bone Density Bone Density

    Bone Density

Are you over 30? Have you been screened for Osteoporosis?

While people over 50 years are more likely to develop Osteoporosis, early screening is beneficial at identifying if you are at risk. 1 in 3 women and 1 in 5 men over the age of 50, in Australia, will develop one or more osteoporotic fractures in their lifetime*

    What are Bone Density Screenings?

A Bone Density Screening is a quick and easy ultrasound test available at Quality Pharmacy stores to help assess your risk of developing osteoporosis and fractures.

What can I expect during a Bone Density Screening?

A Bone Density Screening requires a bare foot as it passes ultrasound waves through the heel to measure its density. During the test, it is best to remain stationary for more accurate results. Results are immediate and your Pharmacist will discuss these results with you and send a copy to your doctor if necessary.

This fast and accurate test is recommended for anyone with a history or family history of heart disease/diabetes, is overweight, is a smoker, or if you simply want to know more about your health!

Health screens are conducted in private, our pharmacist will begin by asking you questions about your current health, your lifestyle (including exercise), your typical diet and your family's medical history.

Under Professor Sussmans guidance and training our pharmacists response to presented wounds is to encourage the healing of wounds & prevent 'in hospital' care where possible, by:

    • investigating the cause of the wound
    • providing an appropriate treatment plan
    • applying and dressing wounds (in a clinical setting) as per the treatment plan, in conjunction with the patients practitioner.
    • providing preventative care and advice to avoid re-injury &/or infection.

For over 30 years, Professor Sussman has been a renown leader in wound management and healing, extending to clinical research, clinical practice and teaching within the sector. • Flu Vaccinations Flu Vaccinations

    Flu Vaccinations

    What is the Flu?

It is a common viral infection that can be deadly, especially in high-risk groups. The flu attacks the lungs, nose and throat. Young children, older adults, pregnant women and people with chronic disease or weak immune systems are at high risk.

Symptoms include fever, chills, muscle aches, cough, congestion, runny nose, headaches and fatigue.

    Don't be scared, be prepared!

By having an annual flu vaccination, it can help prevent the spread of the flu virus by providing increased protection to you and those around you who may be at high risk of developing flu related complications.

All vaccines in Australia must pass the rigorous safety testing by the TGA before they are approved for use. Flu vaccines are adjusted each year (due to mutations in the virus), therefore the vaccine will only be released, subject to it passing this same TGA safety approval process, year on year.

    Protect you and protect others:

    • No prescriptions are required.
    • Administered by qualified immunising Pharmacist.
    • Appointments are necessary.

After you have been vaccinated you will be required to stay in our pharmacy waiting area for 15 minutes under observation for any reaction.

All of our Pharmacists who administer vaccinations are trained in both first aid and CPR, and know how to respond to adverse anaphylactic reactions.

    Pertussis (Whooping Cough) Vaccinations

    What is Whooping Cough?

Whooping cough (Pertussis), is a highly contagious respiratory infection that can cause a high pitched 'whoop' sound when breathing in after longer episodes of coughing. Exposure to airborne droplets, from the coughing and sneezing of those infected, is the most common way the bacteria spreads.

Whooping cough can affect people of all ages. Although, it is particularly serious in young children and babies, as they are more vulnerable to life threatening complications, including:

    • Pauses in their breathing
    • Pneumonia
    • Seizures
    • Feeding difficulties
    • Weight loss

It is recommended that adults who are, or will be, in close contact with babies and young children, should get a whooping cough booster. This includes family members, or those who work in the health or child care sectors.

All vaccines in Australia must pass the rigorous safety testing by the TGA before they are approved for use.
